Welcome to the Tournament.

Dear Volleyballers,

The year 2009 is a special year for Scotland with the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth and the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament. We hope this year's tournament will be a unique volleyball experience catering for all ranges of ability. The Scottish Open continues to be the largest and most popular volleyball tournament in the U.K.

Around 130 teams are again expected to spend the weekend playing on Perth's North Inch and in Bell's Sports Centre this May with the division of honour men's champions USA Athletes returning to defend their title.

Five indoor courts at Bell’s Sports Centre will again cater for the division of honour men's and women's teams and up to 40 outdoor courts on the famous North Inch cater for men’s, women’s and mixed divisions. This year's Scottish Open is sure to be a real buzz, whatever the level of play indoors or outdoors.

Our 25th anniversary fun starts as always on the Friday evening when the social scene kicks off with our typically Scottish Ceilidh dance where everyone gets into the spirit of Scotland in all its various aspects –once again an experience not to be missed with our Ceilidh band members talking you through all the Scottish dances.

After Saturday’s volleyball, all teams are graded, depending on their Saturday results, for Sunday’s competition, which is again in two stages This guarantees meaningful games for everybody on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday evening’s disco is not to be missed, with around one thousand volleyballers expected to dance the night away enjoying each others’ company socially after a day of competition.

Sunday’s play commences at 9 a.m. with both high road and low road competitions indoors and outdoors working their way through to a grand final. The volleyball highlight of the weekend is undoubtedly reserved for the teams who reach the final of their particular competition where points literally do mean prizes.

Our willing band of volunteers hope you will make every effort to savour this year's Scottish Open and look forward to renewing “auld acquaintances,” especially our various friends who make that extra special effort in “fancy dress” uniform, now a well established tradition at the Scottish Open – so come along and join in the fun.
